Why My Wife and I Added Options Trading to Our Seven-Figure Income Strategy

Adding Another Brick: Why My Wife and I Started Learning Options Trading

My wife and I have never believed that one stream of income should be responsible for carrying our entire financial future.

Real estate has played a major role in our journey. Business ownership, digital products, consulting, and other investments are also part of the bigger picture. Still, our long-term goal isn’t simply to make more money. We’re building a strong financial foundation capable of producing seven figures in annual income from multiple sources.

Options trading has become another brick in that foundation.

My Interest in Options Started Back in 1999

This isn’t actually my first introduction to the options market.

Back in 1999, I became fascinated with options trading and spent roughly two years paper trading. For anyone unfamiliar with the term, paper trading allows you to practice buying and selling without risking real money.

The internet wasn’t what it is today. Educational resources weren’t as accessible, trading platforms weren’t as advanced, and online communities weren’t everywhere.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was hovering around the 10,000 mark, which feels almost unbelievable when you compare it to today’s market. I remember studying price movement, learning terminology, and becoming fascinated by the entire process.

Life eventually moved me in other directions, but that interest never completely disappeared.

Why We Decided to Revisit Options Trading

More than two decades later, my wife and I found an amazing community of people learning how to trade options with structure, discipline, and risk management.

What surprised us most was the diversity of people involved.

These weren’t all full-time Wall Street traders sitting in front of ten computer screens. Many were business owners, working professionals, parents, retirees, and everyday people who had taken the time to develop a marketable financial skill.

Some members reported generating income comparable to what highly educated professionals such as doctors and engineers earn. That doesn’t mean everybody will achieve those results, and it definitely doesn’t mean options trading is easy. Their experiences simply showed us what may be possible when someone combines education, patience, discipline, and a proven process.

That got our attention.

We weren’t looking for a lottery ticket. Our objective was to learn a new skill that could potentially complement the income streams we had already built.

Options Trading Isn’t About Guessing

Before learning more about the market, many people assume trading is just legalized gambling.

That can certainly become true when someone enters trades without education, ignores risk, chases social media hype, or starts risking money they can’t afford to lose.

Responsible options trading looks completely different.

The process involves studying price action, identifying trends, understanding support and resistance, controlling position size, selecting appropriate expiration dates, and knowing where you’ll exit before entering a trade.

A good trader isn’t simply asking, “How much money can I make?”

The better questions are:

What’s my risk?

What would prove that my original trade idea was wrong?

Where will I take profit?

Does this setup actually match my strategy?

Those questions turn trading from an emotional reaction into a decision-making process.

The Tools We Use to Learn

Technology has made learning the market far more accessible than it was when I started paper trading in 1999.

One of the primary tools we use is TradingView. It gives us the ability to study charts, draw support and resistance levels, follow price action, create watchlists, and review potential setups.

The platform makes it easier to slow the market down and examine what’s happening instead of blindly reacting to every price movement.

We also use thinkorswim, which offers options chains, paper trading, charting tools, and the ability to study how different contracts respond to changes in the underlying stock.

Neither platform automatically turns someone into a profitable trader. They’re tools, just like a hammer, calculator, or real estate deal analyzer. Their value depends on the education, discipline, and decision-making of the person using them.

Finding the Right Community Changed Everything

Trying to learn options trading alone can become overwhelming very quickly.

You’ll encounter calls, puts, premiums, strike prices, expiration dates, implied volatility, delta, theta, spreads, chart patterns, and dozens of other terms. Jumping from one random YouTube video to another can leave you with information but no organized process.

Finding the right community gave us a clearer path.

Through Boss Up Academy, we’ve been able to learn alongside people who are actively studying the market, discussing strategies, reviewing setups, and working to become more disciplined traders.

Community doesn’t eliminate risk, and no mentor can guarantee profitable trades. What a strong community can provide is education, accountability, structure, and the opportunity to learn from people who are further along in the process.

That environment has helped us approach options trading as a real skill instead of a shortcut.

This Is Another Brick, Not the Entire House

Our seven-figure annual income strategy isn’t built around one trade, one stock, one property, one business, or one lucky opportunity.

The strategy is based on building multiple strong income-producing assets and skill sets.

Real estate is one brick.

Business ownership is another.

Digital products and intellectual property are additional bricks.

Long-term investments, strategic partnerships, and now options trading can each strengthen the overall foundation.

Some bricks may eventually become larger than others. Certain income streams will perform better during different seasons. Diversification gives us more flexibility and keeps one temporary setback from bringing down the entire structure.

We’re Still Students

My wife and I aren’t approaching this journey as people who know everything about trading.

We’re students.

We study. We practice. We ask questions. We paper trade. We review mistakes. We work on controlling emotions. Most importantly, we respect the reality that trading involves financial risk.

There’s no shame in being a beginner.

Every professional was once a beginner. The difference is that professionals usually continue practicing long after most people become impatient and quit.

The market has a way of humbling anybody who enters it with too much confidence. Remaining teachable may be one of the most valuable trading strategies of all.

Final Thoughts

Revisiting options trading has reminded me of the curiosity I felt back in 1999.

The charts are better now. The technology is faster. The educational communities are more accessible. Yet the basic responsibility remains the same: learn the skill, manage your risk, control your emotions, and never confuse opportunity with certainty.

Options trading isn’t our rescue plan. We don’t need it to replace everything else we’re doing.

It’s another skill we’re developing, another potential stream of income, and another carefully placed brick in the foundation of the financial future we’re building together.
